This tour is ideal for those who want to experience some culture. The focus is on Ouarzazate, the gorges that guide us to the desert and more. You can expect historic monuments, palm forests, oases, desert camps and mountain landscapes.
Itinerary
We will leave Marrakech at 08h00 and cross the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi’n’Tichka Pass (2,260 metres) as we make our way to Ouarzazate. On our way we will be able to admire the breathtaking and vertiginous landscapes and villages perched along the valleys and above the rivers. We will make a short detour and visit the Kasbah of Telouet, which is one of the oldest in Morocco. We will later visit another Kasbah at Ait Ben Haddou, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After lunch in a beautiful restaurant with panoramic views over the plains, we will make our descent towards Ouarzazate, also called the Hollywood of Africa . You will have a chance to visit the film studios and the Kasbah of Taourirt. After lunch we will continue our journey along the Rose Valley, also called the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. We will stop at Kalaat Mgouna for a short visit to a cosmetic rose manufacturer and then continue to the Dades Gorge. On our arrival at the Gorge we will check into a typical and romantic hotel, set up in an ancient Kasbah.
After a delicious Moroccan breakfast you will be able to admire the gorge before continuing our journey towards Merzouga. Our first stop will be the Todra Gorge. We will stop a while for you to admire the gorge with its vertiginous cliffs that plunge down to the river below. We will stop for lunch at Erfoud or Rissani where you start to feel the ambiance of the desert. We continue through the desert landscapes with mountains on the horizons until we arrive in Merzouga, we will find camels and Touareg cameleers waiting to take us on our trek into the desert and the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. We will spend the evening in our Bedouin camp and dine around the bonfire under the stars. If you are lucky, our Touareg hosts may put on a musical show for us. Welcome to the wonderful south of Morocco! life.
In the early morning, get ready for a camel ride in the rising sun. Upon arrival in Merzouga, you will have the opportunity to take a shower and enjoy breakfast in a comfortable hotel. After breakfast, your foray into the desert continues as we make our way to another gateway to the desert, the town of Agdaz. Along the way, we will stop at a village called Nkob, which offers breathtaking views of the oasis. Following lunch, we will continue our journey towards Agdaz, traveling down the impressive Draa Valley. It is the biggest palm grove in all of Morocco and a route that is adorned with hundreds of kasbahs. We will spend the night in Agdaz.
After breakfast in your hotel or campsite, we will take the road to Tamegroute and visit the oldest library in Morocco. Our journey continues up the Draa Valley until we reach Tamnougalt where we will visit its impressive Kasbah. Our road takes us through a wonderful mineral landscape with stunning views as far as the eye can see until we reach Ouarzazate. We will stop for lunch and then start our ascent into the High Atlas Mountains and over the Tizi’n’Tichka pass (2,300 meters high). We will arrive in Marrakech late afternoon.
