Six days that take you through the ancient imperial city of Taroudant, the Atlas Mountains, the desert and the biggest palm grove in Morocco. Ideal to discover Morocco at a leisurely pace.
We will pick you up from the Airport and transfer you to your hotel or riad in Marrakech.
We will collect you from your accommodation at 09h00 and depart to the Tizi’n’Test pass in the High Atlas mountains. On our way we will stop to visit the 11th century Tinmel Mosque, one of the very few mosques open to non-Muslims in Morocco. We later lunch in the mountains, in a small restaurant with beautiful panoramic views over the plains of Souss. We will start our descent towards the plateau, winding our way through beautiful argan forests and almond plantations. We will arrive at Taroudant in the late afternoon and we will check into our guest house with swimming pool, dinner included
After a delicious Moroccan breakfast you will have free time to visit the town. We will then make our way travelling over the Siroua mountain range and make our way to Talouine, the saffron capital. We will stop here so that you can discover the town and purchase some of the local saffron. Our next stop is Tazenakht, an important carpet centre (the carpets are sold in women’s cooperatives). Our journey then continues through the magnificent landscapes and high plateaus with breathtaking views. We arrive in Agdz in the late afternoon, where we will have dinner and spend the night in a guest house.
After breakfast, we will start our journey towards the desert and the town of Merzouga. Our journey takes us through fascinating berber villages and the wonderful oasis town of Nkob with magnificent views over the oasis. We journey between the Atlas and the Jebel Sahro mountain ranges, through the town of Tazzarine until we reach Alnif, famous for fossils. We will have lunche here and then continue through the desert landscapes with mountains on the horizons, until we arrive in Merzouga. In Merzouga we will find camels and touareg cameleers waiting to take us on our trek into the desert and the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. We will spend the evening in our Bedouin camp and dine around the campfire under the stars. If you are lucky, our Touareg hosts may put on a musical show for us. Welcome to the wonderful south of Morocco!
You will be awakened before dawn so that you are ready for a camel ride in the rising sun. On arrival in Merzouga, you will be able to take a shower and enjoy breakfast in a comfortable hotel. After breakfast, we will visit a unusual group of musician called “Gnaoua”, in the village of Khamlia. Your journey continues across the Tafilalt Oasis, considered to be one of the largest in the world and famous for its dates. The next stop are the vertiginous cliffs of the Todra Gorge. We will stop here to wander through the gorge and admire this place of outstanding natural beauty. We will have lunch in the gorge and later continue our journey along the Rose Valley. This valley is also called the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs. you will be amazed by the multitude of deep ochre coloured kasbahs that line this valley, perched along the banks of the river. We will arrive in Ouarzazate in the late afternoon and check into our hotel or Kasbah, where we will enjoy dinner and comfortable overnight accommodation.
After breakfast we visit the Kasbah of Taourirte, the cinema studios in Ouarzazate and then continue our journey to Ait Ben Haddou. We will of course visit its amazing Kasbah, which is a Unesco World Heritage site. We will have lunch at the Kasbah. We now start our ascent into the Atlas Mountains, crossing the Tizi ‘n Tichka Pass at 2260 meters of altitude. The views and the typical Berber villages are a total enchantment. We will arrive in Marrakech at the end of the afternoon.
